Modesto Police

Detectives continue to investigate the shooting death of 37 year-old James Chisum and its possible connection to an attempted robbery earlier in the month. On Sunday night October 21, 2018 about 8:00 p.m., officers from the Modesto Police Department responded to the scene of a shooting in the 400 block of Donegal Dr. Officers and Emergency personnel found James Chisum had been shot. He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. During the course of the investigation detectives have determined the shooting may be related to recent gang activity in the area. Detectives are also investigating the possible connection to an incident that occurred on 10-11-18 at the Stop N Save, 2549 Yosemite Blvd, and are trying to determine if it is related to this shooting. During this incident two unidentified Hispanic or White males in their early twenties entered the business around 9:30pm. Employees and a customer of the business verbally confronted the two males when they began to suspect the males were planning to rob the business. The two males left in a dark colored vehicle. Detectives are asking for any help in identifying the two males involved and any witnesses that may have been present at the time of the incident. If you have any information regarding this shooting or the attempt robbery, please call Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636, go to the website at or use the P3 app. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward. #stanareacs #modestopolice
